High-Leverage: The New Currency for Ambitious Women
Ambitious, smart, high-achieving women with big dreams could run the world. However, we fall into the same traps over and over again: perfectionism, people-pleasing, and a total lack of boundaries.
These are the symptoms of our “operating default modes” - the “do it all” and “control it all” settings we apply to our careers, families, and personal commitments.
You might even enjoy the buzz and the hyped feeling of being “the boss,” being in constant “running mode.” We’ve been conditioned to think this is what success looks like.
It’s almost like an addiction. It feels great - until you hit a limit.
As a former scientist with late-diagnosed AuDHD, I’ve had to confront a hard truth: being "busy" is actually a low-leverage activity. It’s a trick our brains play on us because busyness feels like progress, but in reality, it often yields a painfully low ROI (Return on Investment) for our well-being and true goals. When you are neuro-divergent or simply high-achieving, "pushing through" the noise isn't just exhausting; it's a systemic failure. The more energy you give away to these low-value demands, the less is left for your true potential.
If there’s nothing left, you’re stuck.
Systemic Diagnosis: An Efficiency Problem
Being stuck is the enemy of progress. If we want to change the outcome, we have to rethink our default settings.
This is, at its core, an efficiency problem.
When you give too much for too little return, you are “wasting” precious capacity. In everything, there is a mathematical point where the effort you put in no longer justifies the output.
A high-leverage life identifies this point before you cross it.
The Concept: High-Leverage Living
High-leverage living is about Life Cost-Effectiveness: getting the maximum output from your input.
Now, this doesn’t mean calculating every second for profit. We must value joy and leisure for our emotional health. But high-leverage living is exactly what enables this. It ensures you get the time and energy back that you can then invest into your true self.
It’s about moving beyond the “successful façade” and building a life you don’t need to escape from. This isn’t just a “mindset shift” - it’s about smart systems, clear boundaries, and honest prioritization.
Take physical health as an example. We all want a strong body as we age. But while many of us love yoga or pilates (I’m an avid yogi myself!), the research - which is finally addressing the “gender gap” - shows that for women, lifting heavy is often the higher-leverage choice to prevent brittle bones after menopause. You can do the work, but if you want the specific result of a strong body in 20 years, you need the highest-leverage tool for the job.
The Unexpected Ripple Effect
The best part about high-leverage living? This benefits everyone you care about. It is not selfish to maximize your potential.
Example: When you build an aligned system - like a precision Notion workflow - you don’t just save yourself time. You create a blueprint that others can benefit from, and you free up the mental capacity to be truly present with your family. You gain the energy to help others from a genuine place of abundance instead of just surviving the day on autopilot.
This is how you move from “exhausted autopilot” to aligned ambition with purpose and presence.
P.S.: Want to find your first leverage leak? Look at your calendar for the last 48 hours. Identify one task you did solely out of a 'successful façade' or people-pleasing that yielded zero joy or progress. That is where we start.
