Seasonal Living 101: A Protest Against Toxic Productivity Culture
Hello hello, my lovely souls!
Are you as excited about the coming of Spring as I am? I don’t know about you, but at the start of literally any season, I am buzzing with excitement. There’s something so refreshing about having had my fill of the previous season and looking forward to the new energy that’s just around the corner.
But I have to be honest: it wasn't always like this.
The Cycle of "Next Time"
Back in the days when I was in full-on "hustle mode"—living life on autopilot —my seasons usually looked like this: I’d be excited about the coming months and have heaps of ideas for what I wanted to do. Then, I’d get sucked back into the grind. I’d be busy with work, family, and obligations, and the next thing I knew, the whole season had passed me by. I’d missed out on all the fun stuff I actually wanted to do.
You probably know exactly what happens next. With the next approaching season, you promise yourself: "It will be better this time. Next year will be better."
And guess what? It wasn't. The same cycle happened over and over again.
Why the "Hustle" Doesn't Work
Our modern society dictates that we should always amp up our productivity game. Busyness has become the currency for success. But at the same time, we are hitting an epidemic of burnout and exhaustion. We have no energy left to actually enjoy the life we are working so hard to build.
Nature, as always, has it figured out. So why don't we lean on it for a more sustainable way of living? Nature has its own rhythm and energies—and I don't mean that in a "woo-woo" way.
Think about the cycles around us:
Winter is designed for rest. But when we force ourselves to stay in high-productivity mode year-round, we burn out.
Spring is for awakening. It's the season for new beginnings and new energy.
Controlling What You Can
I know life is busy. You have a job, a family, and commitments you can't just cancel. But you can control what you can control.
Instead of that 5 am exhausting workout in the dark of winter, get up a bit later and snuggle up with a book.
Instead of scrolling on your phone during a breather, use that time intentionally to really recharge.
The 4 Seasonal Energies
To live intentionally, we have to understand the energy of each season:
🍂 Autumn: The season to slow down, reset, and prepare your space for coziness.
❄️ Winter: The time to rest and recharge. It is inward-focused. Use this time to journal and reflect on the past year—don't wait for the pressure of New Year's Day.
🌸 Spring: This is where winter reflections come to life! It’s the perfect moment for vision boards and new energy.
☀️ Summer: This is when everything is thriving. It’s the time for action, adventure, and outdoor gatherings because you are finally rested.
Why This Changes Everything
When you stop fighting nature and start flowing with it, the benefits are life-changing:
No More FOMO: You live each season intentionally because you’re doing the right things at the right time.
Perfect Balance: Your life gains a natural focus—action in the summer, reflection in the winter.
Burnout Prevention: By embracing the need for rest, you stop the "crash" and start feeling like you're living in a flowing state.
A Final Thought
Start small. Notice how the light is shifting this week. Let that awareness guide you, not a rigid calendar or toxic productivity culture. You might find that life feels a little softer, a little slower... and a lot more yours.
This was my first entry point into intentional living, and I can't wait to share more with you.
Next week, I’m continuing this series with our Seasonal Living 101: Spring Edition.
I’d love to know: What is one small shift you can make this week to start living more in sync with Spring?
Until next time, lots of love.
