How To Keep Your Cup Full: The 4 Buckets of Wellbeing
While we’re busy building our dreams, building our careers, and chasing ambitious goals, there’s usually one thing that falls by the wayside: wellbeing. Most of us only realize it’s missing when it’s already too late.
However, self-care doesn’t have to be fancy or time-consuming. There are really just four "buckets" you need to keep filled to ensure you thrive during the good times and gracefully navigate the hard times without running on empty.
If you commit to doing just one thing for each bucket daily—or as often as possible—you’re making the best investment possible. After all, who is the main driver of your dreams? Exactly, you.
Let’s dive straight into it—because we’re all short on time, aren’t we?
The 4 Buckets
To ensure your holistic health, you need to nurture these four areas:
Mental
Emotional
Physical
Spiritual
You can integrate these into your morning routine, your evening wind-down, or sprinkle them throughout the day. Often, one activity can fill multiple buckets at once. Here are a few examples:
MENTAL
You’re likely thinking of meditation, and while that’s a great tool, there are many other ways to clear your mind. Consider breathwork, yoga, or a "silent walk" (no podcasts, just nature). Even something as simple as a quiet cup of tea in the morning or setting phone-free time slots can significantly lower your mental load.
EMOTIONAL
Journaling is a classic, but you could also opt for making music—playing the piano is truly a therapy session for me! Dancing or simply talking to a trusted friend are also powerful ways to process your feelings.
PHYSICAL
This is often the easiest bucket to identify. For my fellow ambitious ladies: I highly recommend Strength Training and SIT (Sprint Interval Training). Since we’re short on time, we need the most effective output for our effort. If you have extra time, feel free to layer in other movement you enjoy!
SPIRITUAL
It is just as important to care for your soul. Whether you believe in God, fate, or the universe, make sure you cater to your belief system. It helps you let go of the urge to control everything; it allows you to give your best and then surrender the outcome. This is not to be underestimated when you have big ambitions—because, like it or not, not everything is in your hands.
I hope this gives you a new perspective on keeping your cup full. By building this foundation, you can chase your dreams while filling your days with activities that actually mean something.
