Things I Do When Entering Winter (aka Menstrual Phase)

I felt it the last few days - winter was coming. And I guess all women who are tapped into their natural cycle know exactly what I’m talking about. The energy decline. The breast soreness. The sluggishness.

It's not being tired of anything specific, but just from everything.

What I’ve learned over the last few cycles is that things go best when I actually listen to myself. So, working from bed it is today. I’ve done my cycle reset, and now it’s time to rest before bringing those reflections to life. I thought, what better topic to share today than what my body and soul crave when entering winter?

Cozy and Slow

This is kind of my motto for today. My brain feels a bit foggy, and my body feels sluggish. I will still do my exercise, because moving my body is always a great choice, but I will adapt the intensity so it feels good. There is no reason to put extra stress on an exhausted body.

Also, work still has to be done, but the benefit of working from home on my own schedule is that I can literally work from bed, reduce my hours for the day, and always have a hot drink by my side.

Prioritizing Rest

With reducing my work hours, I also highly prioritize rest. And I mean intentional rest - not distracting myself from the unwell feeling by starting to scroll endlessly on my phone or bingeing Netflix, but truly doing things that nourish my soul and body. Reading a book. Listening to music. Laying in the sun. Taking a hot bath. Maybe watching an episode from a comfort YouTuber or a favorite show, but in moderation.

Focusing on Deep Breaths

When we are feeling "blah", we tend to restrict our breath and hold onto tension. This does no good. So get your attention on this, recognize where you are holding that tension, and just release it.

Dress for Comfort

I definitely crave a different style of dressing in this phase. While I love a form-fitting style from spring to fall, right now it’s all about warmth and coziness. I prefer things that cover my belly, things that are soft, and things that are a bit loose. This does not mean you have to compromise on style! But it really helps to realize what you actually feel good in. Because if you have to be out and about, you can at least carry that feeling of comfort with you - while still feeling confident and beautiful in a phase where it’s probably not at the forefront of your mind.

Eating Soul Food

What I realized is that my body naturally shifts from salads and "cold food" to warming things - hot drinks, soups, you name it. Don’t stick to the salad just because it suits the image of a "hot girl". They just don’t show the other side, but it still is very much a reality. In the end, you glow when you feel good - and the right food definitely has the power to make that happen.
