9 Micro Habits to Romanticize Your Life This Fall
Autumn has always felt like a gentle invitation to slow down after the busy, (hopefully) sunshine-filled days of summer. The crisp air and golden leaves remind us to turn inward, to cozy up, and to prepare for the colder, darker season ahead.
Each season has its own rhythm - and autumn’s is about transition, presence, and creating little rituals that make everyday life feel beautiful.
Romanticizing your life this fall doesn’t require grand effort. It’s about small, intentional micro habits that help you feel happy, content, and connected to the moment.
Here are some ideas to get you started.
Refresh Your Space for the Season
As the days get shorter, we naturally spend more time indoors - so why not make your space feel like a cozy sanctuary?
Declutter with intention: While spring is perfect for the deep clean, autumn is actually wonderful for a deep declutter. Put on soft music, light a candle, and make it feel calming rather than like a chore.
Switch out decor: Swap summer bright hues for autumnal tones like burgundy, caramel, and navy. Change pillow covers, bring out the cozy blankets, and add non-toxic candles such like the ones from “La Jolie Muse”.
Embrace seasonal scents: Cinnamon, vanilla, apple, or woodsy notes instantly make your home feel warm and inviting.
Refresh Your Wardrobe
One of the easiest ways to romanticize autumn is through what you wear.
Bring back cozy sweaters, scarves, boots, and your favourite jacket.
Don’t forget loungewear: fluffy socks, soft PJs and comfy leisure sets make staying home feel special.
Create outfits that balance style and comfort. A simple pair of jeans, a knitted jumper, sneakers, a cap and a leather jacket always works and is my go-to outfit formula. (If you want to find yours, check out this blogpost about building a wardrobe authentic to you.)
3. Update Your Daily Rituals
Your routines don’t have to stay the same year-round - they can and SHOULD flow with the season and your energy.
Mornings: Instead of a brisk walk, curl up on your porch or balcony with a warm chai latte (or tea, or coffe, … add your favourite) and a good book.
Evenings: Replace long summer nights outside with candlelit baths, cozy movie nights, or board games with your partner or friends. Try journaling, coloring, or making a photo book of the best moments of this year.
Remember: adapting your rituals is NOT “falling off track” - it’s listening to your body and aligning with the season.
4. Enjoy Autumn Flavors
Food is one of the easiest ways to align with the seasons.
Cook seasonally: Think hearty soups, roasted root veggies, pumpkin, and squash. Not only delicious, but also natural for your body and kinder to the planet.
Spice it up: Cinnamon on your oatmeal, nutmeg in your latte, clove in your tea. These warming flavors instantly feel like autumn.
Drinks to savor: Make your own chai syrup to use all season, try a pumpkin spice latte at home, or simply enjoy a cup of tea in your favourite mug.
5. Update Your Skin & Body Care
As the air gets cooler, your body likely needs some extra love.
Switch to richer moisturizers, nourishing serums, lip balms, and hand creams.
Add simple body rituals: warm oil massages, dry brushing, or relaxing showers with calming essential oils.
Think of skincare as self-care - small moments to pause and reconnect with yourself.
But as always - just implement what feels right and good to you and your body!
6. Prevent the Workout Slump and Stay Active
With the colder, darker season, it’s easy to slip out of our workout routines — only to feel pressured in spring to “catch up” for summer. Instead of hibernating, try to keep moving in ways that feel good. Adjust your schedule now so staying active becomes natural and steady.
Swap evening for lunchtime workouts to catch the daylight.
If high-intensity feels too much, lean into grounding exercises like yoga, pilates, or long walks.
Invest in good (and cute) outdoor gear - a cute umbrella, waterproof boots, a cozy jacket. That way, autumn walks feel romantic instead of inconvenient.
7. Create Cozy Indoor Joy
When the weather keeps you inside, lean fully into it.
Make a list of books you want to read or TV shows you’re excited for.
Add cozy background touches - a fireplace video (or ofc light a real fireplace, if you have one!), a soft autumnal playlist, warm lighting.
If you’re studying or working, romanticize your desk: light a candle, get a cute planner, switch up your desktop wallpaper.
8. Enjoy Me-Time
Don’t just let autumn pass by - savor it by creating intentional Me-Time (or You-Time in that case).
Journal about what spring and summer brought you and what you hope for this new season.
Organize photos and create a photo book.
Plan solo dates: bring your favourite book to a café, sip a latte slowly, and maybe enjoy some “people-watching” (you’re doing this too, don’t ya?)
9. Embrace the Outdoors
Even as the days get shorter, its even more important to go outdoor and stock up on as much sunlight as possible - and the autumn light has just its own magic. So dress up in your new cute outdoor gear and get outside!
Go for forest walks, soak in the colours, and breathe in the crisp air.
Bring along a thermos with tea or coffee for an extra layer of coziness.
Science-backed note: Research shows that colorful autumn landscapes can boost mood, calm your nervous system, and even support recovery from stress. Interestingly, even bare trees — often seen as bleak — have their own restorative effects, especially when paired with soothing sounds like rustling leaves. In other words: whether you’re walking through golden foliage or along quiet, leafless paths, you’re still giving your body and mind a chance to recharge.
Romanticizing autumn is about presence. It's not about adding pressure to “do all the things”, but about noticing and savoring the small details - a candle when the days get shorter and darker, the leaves crunching beneath your boots, a warm drink in your hands when you sit outdoors.
When you live intentionally with these micro habits, fall transforms from “just antoher season” into a time of deep contentment and joy.
Lots of love,
